The biggest story in London at the moment is the exhibition of Damien Hirst's diamond encrusted skull. The Sunday Times' art critic Waldemar Januszczak says "I've never done anything quite as goosebump-inducing as going one-on-one with this fabulously unnerving masterpiece in diamonds....as Hirst is a multi-millionaire now...the diamond skull's cheeky insistence on the transience of earthly riches is as pertinent to its creator as it is to every fabulously rich collector in history. If Hirst weren't as rich as he is he could not have afforded [the £14 million pounds it cost] to make this piece. And yet the chief point it makes is that riches mean nothing. Brilliant"
Anita took the boys there today to see it at the White Cube gallery in Mayfair.

as the room was pitch black except for spotlights on the skull, and the diamonds sparkled so much (on his lovely little face)eddie was saying 'very light, very light' as he looked at it. then after we left, 'more diamonds?'
He appreciated it more than he did the Tracey Emin exhibition there, then. (when he was 3 months old)
that's right - i remember there was a lot of crying during that short-lived visit
I think he just found her art boring - a very rational response!! The skull's stunning though.
the White Cube Gallery's in Hoxton! round the corner from work... I must drop in on it; I had no idea this was on display
there are 2 whitle cube galleries, kh - one in hoxton (which has some of the damien hirst stuff) but the other in mayfair - mason's yard- behind fortnum and mason....that is where the diamonds are...
doh!
